Headlines and Announcements:

As 2018 draws to a close, we would like to wish all of our members a very joyous holiday season. Please remember to celebrate responsibly this holiday season and we will look forward to communicating with you in our January 6, 2019 e letter. We thank you for your loyalty and support to the BBBA.

Be sure to mark your calendars for February 5, 2019 which will be our first membership meeting of the new year. We will be installing our Officers and Directors and we will be having a very informative presentation by Ben Block from the Pennsylvania Energy Efficient New Homes are the details:

This spring, municipalities across Pennsylvania will begin enforcement of a new energy code. All homes with contracts signed or permit applications submitted on or after October 1, 2018 are subject to the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) - with some amendments.

Builders whose projects qualify for the Pennsylvania Energy Efficient New Homes Program, offered by FirstEnergy's Pennsylvania utilities (Met-Ed, Penelec, Penn Power and West Penn Power), are already well on their way to constructing homes that conform with the 2015 IECC requirements.

Come to the February 5th BBBA general membership meeting for a presentation on what's required by the new energy code. Learn how the Energy Efficient New Homes Program's financial incentives and technical assistance can support members building homes serviced by Penelec.

All attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a US Hotel Restaurant and Tavern gift certificate - use it to cover dinner costs for future meetings or for a great night out!

Remodelers brace for deceleration
The good news for remodelers, according to recent forecasts, is that demand is expected to continue to grow over the next three years. The not-so-good news is that growth will be slower than it has been for the past three years. Although many remodelers remain optimistic conditions will improve in the months ahead, some already are anticipating a decline in the fourth quarter of this year. Recently released data confirms the trend reported last month that remodeling activity remained strong in the third quarter of this year. READ MORE

Fewer Americans are flipping homes - and that's a bad sign for the housing market
While TV shows like "Fixer Upper" and "Flip or Flop" rule HGTV's airwaves, few Americans are actually getting in on the home-flipping act these days. In total, 45,901 single-family homes and condos were flipped during the third quarter of 2018, a 12 percent decrease from a year ago, according to a new report released Thursday by real-estate data firm Attom Data Solutions. That is the lowest number of homes flipped in a quarter since the first quarter of 2015. READ MORE

News from Around the Nation:

The slowing US housing market will have 'a small silver lining' in 2019
Don't expect the housing market to make any seismic waves in 2019. The market is ending 2018 on a low note with existing and new home sales on a decline. Even home price growth, which has been on the rise for the past six years, is finally stalling. Economists have called a peak in sales activity and home prices. But they have also said the slowdown will stop short of a crash. READ MORE
